Telecounseling/Distance Counseling services are covered by most insurances. Phone or email based counseling are generally not covered by insurance.

Phone, Email and Text Fees

$35 for 15 each minutes

$25 for email or text response. Anything not appropriate for short written responses are referred to either a phone or video based session for those rates. These fees do not apply to general information communications like session planning, insurance questions, etc.

Accepted forms of payment include Mastercard, Visa and American Express credit cards, debit cards and health savings cards.

We also accept personal checks and cash. There is a $40.00 fee for all returned checks.

Kaiser Permanente   some plans have payable benefits under the Multiplan Administrator. Others are not in network. Want a review of  your specific plan to answer the question of whether Strategies For Life can accept Kaiser insurance?

Insurance Filing Policies

Strateies For Life will file for insurance benefits, but filing does not guarantee payment by the insurance carrier.

Depending on the carrier and plan, the insurance for counseling services may not work like other health benefits.

Please read carefully.

Have not met the deductible for the year at the time of service? Clients are responsible for the full contracted rate with the the insurance carrier and that will continue to be charged that amount until the deductible has been met.

Met the deductible for the year at the time of service or the plan not subject to the deductible? The fee will be the coinsurance or copayment indicated on the card or in the plan.

Want to know what to expect as a fee?  Submit the insurance carrier’s name and your id number from the plan along with your name and date of birth to run the insurance benefits. Use the contact form on the website or contact our office directly.

Every attempt is made to identify deductible and coinsurance or copayment amounts at the time of the intake. Some third party administrators (other companies that handle claims instead of the main insurance company) or self insured plans may not make this information available to us online. If Strategies For Life is not able to identify this information, the client will be charged the private pay rate until their responsibility can be determined. Clients will be notified of this in advance where possible or as soon as the information is made available to the billing office. If any overpayment occurs, the amount would be credited back to the client’s account.

Special Note about Third Party Administrators

Some third party administrators list providers in network because of their contracts with a larger insurance company. However, this does not mean that the provider has a working agreement with the third party administrator or that they have completed a process to be admitted into the third party administrator’s billing system.

To be added to their system to able to bill them for services, requires additional time and expense on the part of the provider, on the client’s behalf. These applications can take hours to complete and require several follow up commuications. They may take from 30 to 180 days to complete.

In these cases, Strategies For Life reserves the right to be able to charge the client a fee to cover those costs. This fee will be $50 per hour for initial setup and $25 an hour for follow work required to complete the process. Clients will be notified in advance to determine whether they want to pursue the process for billing that administrator.

Refiling

Insurance is refiled only in an attempt to get payment following an denial. Refiling is limited to situations where there has been a clerical error or there is some reasonable expectation of payment. Refiling are generally limited to once unless there is some extenuating circumstance.

Secondary Insurances

Billing secondary insurances usually require billing the primary insurance first for denial or payment and then billing the secondary insurance. Secondary billing is limited to those situations in which Strategies For Life is also able to bill the primary insurance. The client will be responsible for their portion of payment from the primary insurance and no additional allowances will be made for secondary billings. There is a $15 fee for all secondary insurance billing attempts.

As a reminder, clients are responsible for the full amount of the fee if their insurance does not pay for any reason. All clients are required to keep a card on file with our office to cover uncovered expenses. Clients will be notified in advance of financial responsibility or as soon as Strategies For Life is aware of an insurance company’s failure to remit payment. After filing, if the insurance does not pay, payment in full is due immediately. For those who need assistance with payment and payment plan may be accepted.

Insurances Not Accepted

Out of network insurance carrier? If the plan has out of network benefits, Strategies For Life may attempt billing for those at the client’s request. A full rate fee is charged until benefits are paid.

Have a Medicare Supplemental Plan with one of the insurance companies Strategies For Life is in network with? Strategies For Life cannot file for payment because Strategies For Life is not in network with Medicare.

EAP

Check with your employer to see if Strategies For Life is in network. Clients are not responsible for any payments are the time of service for approved sessions. Clients must present proof of authorization authorization from their employer or insurance carrier to qualify for those EAP services. If clients choose to pursue services beyond the authorized number of sessions, they will become financially responsible for those sessions.

Open Path and Give An Hour

These programs provide low cost or free therapy services to clients. Acceptance to these programs depends on current enrollment and space availability and is offered at the therapist’s discretion. If interested in those programs, please contact them directly as they have the current availability for the program.
