Natalie Wakeley, MS, APC

Psychotherapist & Coach

I am first and foremost committed to working with clients to create the most effective and healing experience possible in each session. I have experience working with children, adolescents and families facing challenges with communication and behavior, as well as adults and adolescents struggling with depression and anxiety.

The therapy I offer is rooted in a psychodynamic approach but tailored to meet the needs and goals of each client. I am experienced in using evidence based therapies such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MBCT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well. I am keenly aware of how the events of our past can continue to influence our present day life, even sometimes after we have tried to move on and let it go. By telling your story in a safe and supportive environment, we can begin to pinpoint the things that keep you stuck and begin to move you forward in a healthy and happy way. I’m also a proponent of a mindfulness based lifestyle. Mindfulness empowers us to reclaim our innate ability to enjoy every day by fully embracing the present moment- unburdened from the past and at peace with the future. I am an LGBTQ affirming therapist. I facilitate a weekly mindfulness group, “Mindful Living in the Modern World.”

Everyone needs a little help from time to time, and it can be nice to gain outside perspective. I want to be the person who can lend you that extra support. I have had a passion for psychology and helping others since 2004. My top priority when providing treatment is the person whom I am treating. I understand that all people are different and my approach may need to change and adapt to fit the individual’s needs. I want to do whatever it takes to see improvements and help you make progress towards your desired goal.
I’ve worked with a wide range of people. The first population of people I have worked with are incarcerated individuals. I practiced counseling at the Gwinnett County Detention Center where I assessed personal needs and also worked with people on processing past behavior and ways to change future behavior. I co lead a fatherhood group while at the jail. I also practiced working with college students managing day to day stressors. Next I found a job working with people suffering from severe & persistent mental illness while I was at a Community Service Board. I led a 12 week anger management group and coping skills group while there and worked with over 100 patients one on one. I’ve worked closely with seniors and led a caregiver support group as well at a senior center.
I’ve educated families, couples, and individuals on techniques derived from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. I’ve gained experience in several different settings and I’m still always looking to expand my knowledge in order to be the best counselor to fit your needs. I look forward to meeting you soon.
